PROJECT DIRECTOR

DR. YOHANNES HAILE-SELASSIE is a world renowned expert in early hominin evolution. After three years of survey, he began conducting systematic fieldwork in the Woranso-Mille area and formed the Woranso-Mille Paleoanthropological Research Project. He brought together geologists, paleoanthropologists, and paleontologists from the United States, Europe, and Africa to help elucidate the human fossil record in this part of the Afar region. Dr. Haile-Selassie has published his research in some of the most prominent scientific journals in the world, including Nature, Science, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, as well as technical specialist journals, such as Journal of Human EvolutionAmerican Journal of Physical Anthropologists, and Journal of Mammalian Evolution. He is an elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and Associate Fellow of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences.
